Sequoia Pursues AI Chip Startup With Full Partner Offensive

NVIDIA is addressing AI's growing memory constraints through full-stack codesign, optimizing GPUs, CPUs, networking, storage and software together rather than simply adding more high-bandwidth memory. The approach targets inefficiencies across the memory hierarchy, from model weights to KV cache to retrieval-augmented generation data. Results show agentic throughput per dollar increased up to 30x from Blackwell Ultra to Vera Rubin despite only 3% HBM capacity gains per GPU.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has formally adopted Bluetooth High Data Throughput (HDT) as an optional feature in Bluetooth Core 7.0, tripling the maximum bit rate from 2 Mbps to 7.5 Mbps. The upgrade will enable higher resolution audio streaming while also improving battery life and reliability. First devices supporting HDT are expected in 2027, with wireless audio as the primary initial application.

Apollo Global Management, a private-equity and lending firm, is emerging as a major player in AI chip financing through two major deals: a $40 billion lease arrangement with SpaceX for Nvidia Vera Rubin chips, and a $35 billion fundraising effort with Broadcom and Blackstone to purchase Google tensor processing units for lease to Anthropic. These transactions signal Apollo's shift into large-scale AI infrastructure financing and underscore the capital intensity of the AI race.

AI is accelerating semiconductor manufacturing by shortening simulation cycles, enabling faster process optimization, and automating routine engineering tasks. Companies like COMSOL, Applied Materials, Siemens, and Lam Research are deploying accelerated computing and physics-based AI to reduce the time engineers spend waiting for simulation results, from days to milliseconds in some cases. This shift allows engineers to explore more design alternatives before committing to expensive physical trials, while maintaining decision-making authority over the manufacturing process.
