OpenAI Launches Education Plugins for ChatGPT Work and Codex

Three independent security researchers at Hacktron used Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.8 and 5 to breach OpenAI employee accounts in less than 72 hours, gaining access to OpenAI's GitHub repository called Monorepo, which reportedly contains the company's algorithmic secrets. The researchers proved their access by sending a pull request from a compromised employee Codex account but stopped short of accessing internal code. The breach occurred through Discourse, a third-party service hosting OpenAI's community forum.

OpenAI has introduced Astra for Law, a product designed specifically for legal firms that combines frontier AI capabilities with custom workflows, integrated legal data sources, and security controls built for confidential client work. The offering targets the legal profession's need for AI tools that can handle sensitive information while maintaining compliance and client confidentiality. This represents OpenAI's expansion into vertical-specific enterprise applications beyond general-purpose AI.

OpenAI has appointed Brian McCarthy, formerly of SpaceX's Cursor unit, as global sales chief, reporting to recently hired Chief Revenue Officer Dali Rajic. The company also recruited two senior sales executives from Snowflake, including a senior vice president involved in major deal negotiations. The moves signal OpenAI's effort to build out enterprise sales infrastructure as it scales its commercial operations.

OpenAI is close to solving the Hodge Conjecture, a second Millennium Prize Problem, following earlier controversy over its work on the Navier-Stokes problem. The company is deliberating how to announce the solution collaboratively with the math community to avoid repeating a recent public relations incident.
